Channel 4 welcomes ABC’s Goldbergs

GoldbergsUK broadcaster Channel 4 has bought The Goldbergs, which is one of the rare successful network comedies of recent years.

Channel 4’s youth-skewed channel E4 will run season one of the show early next year following the deal with distributor Sony Pictures Television.

This comes soon after Channel 4 bought another SPT comedy, freshman series Marry Me.

Season one of The Goldbergs averaged seven million viewers across its 23-episode run, and a second is currently airing on the Alphabet Network.

The single-cam comedy is loosely based on the childhood experiences of actor-producer Adam Goldberg in 1980s Pennsylvania.

The Goldbergs have already proved to be immensely popular with viewers in the US with the show’s brilliant blend of humour, nostalgia and original storytelling,” said SPT’s executive VP, international distribution Mike Wald. “Following our recent sale of hit comedy Marry Me, it will make a great addition to E4’s new year programming.”

The Goldbergs comes from Happy Madison Productions, Adam F. Goldberg Productions and Exhibit A Productions in conjunction with SPT.
