Sky Deutschland launches Star Wars channel
Sky Deutschland, the German arm of UK-Italian-German pay TV operator Sky, has launched a dedicated Star Wars channel.
Sky Star Wars HD will show the six Star Wars movies around the clock. The launch of the special channel comes ahead of the Christmas period and ahead of the release of The Force Awakens, the next instalment in the franchise, next year.
As well as the movies, the channel will have the behind the scenes content, interviews with the actors and docs about the iconic movie series.
Martin Michel, managing director of Sky’s ad sales operation, Sky Media Network, said: “Star Wars is a cross-generational phenomenon. Especially in the pre-Christmas adverising period we offer the advertising industry with this special programming again.”
Yesterday, BSkyB closed its majority acquisition of Sky Deutschland and 100% takeover of Sky Italia. BSkyB renamed itself as Sky following the deals.
