BBC preps sci-fi exclusives for iPlayer
UK pubcaster the BBC is launching three new sci-fi shows on its iPlayer streaming and catch-up service under the My Life in Science Fiction banner.
Podcast producers The Geek Syndicate are making the films for iPlayer.
My Life in Science Fiction: Invasion of the Fans will follow sci-fi fans and obsessives who reveal how the genre has changed their lives.
My Life in Science Fiction: Days of Fear and Wonder is a ‘geek’s eye view’ of the upcoming British Film Institute sci-fi event, which will present a huge number of new and classic films and series from the genre and take place this autumn.
The third film, My Life in Science Fiction: Stories from the Stars, will be narrated by Mark Gatiss (Sherlock) and feature sci-fi stars discussing their work, including Rutger Hauer on Bladerunner and Alien star Veronica Cartwright discussing the movie.
BBC linear channel BBC Two will also have a new sci-fi series, Tomorrow’s Worlds: The Unearthly History Of Science Fiction (pictured). In the four-part factual series historian and author Dominic Sandbrookwill set out to offer the definitive history of science fiction. BBC Arts is producing the series.
The iPlayer shows, which were ordered by BBC commissioning editor is Tom Williams, will launch online on the same day the BBC Two series starts later this year. The TX dates for both have not been confirmed.
