Wowow coproducing Nineteen Eighty-Four doc

Japanese premium channel operator Wowow has come on board a new doc about the seminal George Orwell novel Nineteen Eighty-Four.

The doc, Finding 1984, will examine the subject matter of the dystopian classic and look at how technology is allowing modern society to be monitored in ways predicted in the novel that Orwell wrote in 1948.

Wowow will coproduce the doc with Australian indie producer WildBear Entertainment. It will launch the film on December 27.

The Japanese channel operator has increasingly moved into original programming, coproducing Wim Wenders’ Cathedrals of Culture and Martin Scorsese’s 50 Year Argument among others.
