Transgender series is Discovery net’s debut original
A documentary series on the lives of transgender friends living in the US state of Kansas will be the debut original commission for the upcoming Discovery Life Channel.
Those Girls (WT) will premiere on the channel in March 2015, two months after Discovery Life replaces Discovery Fit & Health.
The show will come from a newly-formed LA prodco, Conveyor Media, which launched in June as a partnership of former Wilshire Studios development executive Jay James and Syfy alumni Colin Whelan.
James and Whelan executive produce along with three other Conveyor execs: Teri Rogers, Matt Antrim and Eric Streit. Jane Latman, Julie Meisner Eagle and Henry Schleiff will rep Discovery. Caroline Gibbs, who is head of The Transgender Institute, is a co-executive producer.
The show will follow four pairs of transgender couples and friends and will attempt to “profile who they really are”, according to Discovery.
“Those Girls embodies what Discovery Life Channel is meant to be – a place for people from all walks of life to have their stories told without a filter, and I am thrilled that this is the first series we’re announcing as our own,” said Latman, general manager of Discovery Life.
