Moriarty takes over from Shortt at AMC
Mike Moriarty has been appointed managing director of AMC’s international channels business, replacing Dermot Shortt, who has stepped down.
Moriarty has been running the Chellomedia channels and DMC playout operations.
Following AMC’s acquisition of Chello, creating AMC Networks International – Zone, the group runs a 13-strong bouquet of channels that includes Extreme Sports Channel and preschool channel JimJam as well as CBS joint venture offerings CBS Drama, CBS Action, CBS Reality and CBS Europa.
In his London-based MD role, Moriarty will report to Ed Carroll, AMC Networks’ chief operating officer.
Shortt has exited the company but AMC said he will still work across the channels portfolio in a consultancy capacity. He was at Chello for twelve years and before that was at the international division of factual channel operator Discovery.
“These management changes come as we further integrate and expand our international operations,” said Carroll. “Dermot has made a great contribution to the growth of Zone over the past 13 years and we are pleased we will continue to benefit from his expertise and industry experience in a consulting capacity. Mike’s strong track record in programming and operations will bring continued strong leadership for our networks throughout Europe.”
AMC rebranded Chellomedia to AMC Networks International, after completing its buyout of the global channels operator and content company in February.
