NBC, Lawrence seek The IT Crowd
A US remake of British sitcom The IT Crowd could be on the way after broadcast network NBC green lit a put pilot.
Scrubs creator Bill Lawrence is helping the project alongside Neil Goldman and Garrett Donovan (both of NBC’s Community) Warner Bros. Television. Lawrence’s Doozer produces alongside WBTV and FremantleMedia North America.
Lawrence, Goldman, Donovan, FMNA’s Thom Beers and Craig Cegielski and original show creator Graham Linehan executive produce.
NBC previously picked up The IT Crowd as a format for the 2006-7 season but this version never made it to air.
The IT Crowd ran successfully on UK net Channel 4. It starred Chris O’Dowd, Richard Ayoade and Katherine Parkinson as a trio of dysfunctional computer technicians in the basement of a large corporation.
FremantleMedia has rights to the original series, which is from Delightful Industries and TalkbackThames (is which now two separate prodcos).
Deadline broke the story.
