Power1Upcoming Canadian SVOD service Shomi has acquired a package of premium shows from Starz Digital Media, the on-demand licensing arm of US network Starz.

The deal includes New York crime drama Power, which rapper Curtis ’50 Cent’ Jackson executive produces, LeBron James’ upcoming basketball-themed comedy Survivor’s Remorse, pirate drama Black Sails, David S. Goyer’s Da Vinci’s Demons, period piece The White Queen and Magic City.

Other key content includes Spartacus, comedy Party Down and animated series Dan Vs., which comes from Starz’s animation firm, Film Roman.

These will all go out through the Rogers and Shaw Media JV Shomi, which beta launches in Canada in November and will be available for C$8.99 (US$8) a month.

“Our partnership with Starz brings a phenomenal mix of immersive dramas and loveable comedies to our members,” said Marni Shulman, head of content and programming, Shomi. “Every programme in this deal offers premium content for our viewers that will keep them coming back for more.”
