Former Eyeworks exec launches distributor

Tyler Massey has launched a new LA-based distribution firm, MassMedia International.

Massey was the executive director of international sales at Eyeworks distribution arm, which has wound down in the wake of Warner Bros. acquisition of the company.

He has now struck out on his own, launching MMI, which plans to sell formats and finished series across the scripted and unscripted genres. Its launch slate includes formats hailing from China and Africa.

“The industry is embracing good ideas from markets big and small, and MMI is committed to developing territories who have historically been format importers only into exporters as well,” Massey said.

He added: “Some of the strongest and most unique concepts are created in the most unlikely of places, and I’m excited to work with these talented partners to bring their original ideas to the global marketplace.”

Chinese Spelling Hero is a spelling format from China’s 3C Media that has been a big hit in the country, registering as the third most-watched show ever.

MMI also has safari format The Big Five Challenge, which is made by African producer Goddunit Promotion and went out on Animal Planet in the UK and EMEA region.

Massey is the second senior ex-Eyeworks sales exec to reveal new plans in recent weeks following the news that Ted Bookstaver has taken a role at Shine International.
