MTV acquires African rights to Jimmy Fallon
Youth entertainment net MTV has acquired African TV broadcasting rights to US talker The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
After concluding a deal with NBCUniversal International Television Distribution, MTV will launch the talk show on Wednesday, September 24 on its African feeds.
“MTV and Jimmy Fallon have a long history of collaboration, going back to 2002 when he hosted the Video Music Awards,” said Dillon Khan, channel director, MTV and VH1 in South Africa.
“We expect The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to form a staple part of our audience’s daily viewing, with each show driving conversations among fans from the swings in the playground to the water cooler at work and everywhere in between.”
Fallon replaced Jay Leno as host of The Tonight Show five months ago. In the US, the NBC series is a staple of the broadcasting landscape, having been on air for almost six decades.
