Weinstein Company takes US rights to Roald Dahl series
The Weinstein Company has picked up US rights to the upcoming adaptation of Roald Dahl novel Esio Trot.
The TV movie, which was penned by Richard Curtis (Love Actually) and will star Dustin Hoffman and Judi Dench, is made by Endor. The UK producer is part of the Red Arrow Group, which distributes the show and struck the TWC deal.
The US company will take all US rights to the series, which will debut on the BBC in the UK and is currently in post production.
TWC co-chairman Harvey Weinstein said: “Roald Dahl is one of the most revered children’s authors in history, so needless to say we’re delighted to be on board with this project. Dustin Hoffman and Judi Dench will do a phenomenal job embodying his beloved, one-of-a-kind characters.”
The series, which follows a shy bachelor’s attempt to woo his neighbour despite her attention being focused on her pet tortoise, was one of BBC One controller Charlotte Moore’s first commissions when she joined the channel.
