Sky 1 adds trio of 8pm formats
UK pay TV channel Sky 1 HD has commissioned a trio of factual and factual entertainment formats for its key primetime 8pm slot.
Last week, TBI revealed Sky 1 had commissioned Thai format The Fanatic for the slot, which channel director Adam MacDonald (pictured) has made a priority since taking up the post.
As expected, the BSkyB channel has now confirmed more shows for the slot, namely ob doc Gordonstoun, quiz tournament Relatively Clever and phobia format Fright Club.
Gordonstoun is a 6x60mins doc series from ITN Productions, which produced Sky 1’s Harrow: a Very British School. It follow life at an elite Scottish boarding school that Prince Charles is a former pupil of.
Relatively Clever is a 7x60mins quiz series from All3Media-backed John Stanley Productions in which families compete to win a trophy.
Fright Club comes from Maverick TV and will be a 6x60mins show following people with crippling phobias. Each week ten sufferers will undergo extreme forms of therapy in order to tackle their fears head on.
“I am delighted to announce these fresh and exciting new additions to Sky 1’s emerging slate of 8pm programming, a celebration of people’s passions and real life journeys that the whole family can enjoy together,” said MacDonald.
Sky is set to invest £600 million (US$1 billion) across its channels bouquet in UK-created original programming by the end of the year. Other recently-commissioned 8pm series include The Sun Set, Welcome to My Garden and Flintoff: Lord of the Fries.
