Tricon shops library to Google Play

Canada’s Tricon Films & Television has signed a worldwide deal placing all of its scripted series with digital service Google Play.

The 2,000-plus hour deal includes original IFC comedies such as the 26x30mins Maron (left) and 6x30mins Will Ferrell series The Spoils of Babylon, which is getting a follow-up, The Spoils Before Dying.

Also included are all of Tricon’s one-off documentaries and doc series, Tricon Kids & Family content including youth competition series The Next Star, and unscripted factual and lifestyle series, which will launch shortly after the other shows.

The deal covers all Google Play territories worldwide. Tricon’s director of digital sales, Karthiga Ratnasabapathy brokered the agreement.

“We’re very pleased to forge a new global partnership with Google and help kick-start the Google Play service into Canada with our diverse catalogue of scripted and unscripted content,” said Jon Rutherford, senior VP of distribution and business development, Tricon. “This is an important next step for Tricon as we continue to grow our digital and transactional business across all platforms.”

Formerly known as the Android Market, Google Play is a digital distribution platform that allows users to download content either as a TVOD purchases or for free.
