Local producer and TVN owners CJ E&M will make the show, which has been greenlit for three twelve-episode seasons. It is in pre-production and, once filming commences, some of the series will be shot in China.
The show will be written by Song Jae-jung and directed by Kim Byung-soo (both pictured), who teamed for hit South Korean series Nine: 9 Times Time Travel, also on TVN.
The new version of the classic story will be set in 17th century Korea and tell stories relating to the Joseon Dynasty.
Jung Yong-hwa, a member of K-Pop band CNBLUE, will play the main character d’Artagnan. Lee Jin-wook (Nine: 9 Times Time Travel) will play historical crown prince Sohyeon of Joseon embodying the role of Athos, leader of the Musketeers.
The Korean series comes on the heels of the UK pubcaster the BBC’s adaptation of the Dumas novel, Musketeers, which was on BBC One in the UK and shopped around the world by BBC Worldwide.
