Selection of projects set for Cartoon Forum 2014

Project submissions for the European coproduction event Cartoon Forum have risen 50% on last year’s figure, according to its organiser, CARTOON.

A record 150 projects were put forward, with 80 selected from 19 countries to be presented at the event, which will be the 25^th Cartoon Forum overall.

There are currently 89 listed as being selected on the Cartoon Forum website, but CARTOON was unable to clarify the discrepancy at press time.

As usual, France provides the highest number of projects – around a third. The UK is next with 11, followed by Ireland and Belgium, with nine and eight, respectively. Denmark, Italy and Space each have five and Germany has had four selected.

Less established European animation territories such as Bulgaria, Latvia, Estonia and Croatia will also present projects. There is even one from Malta, which will be making its first appearance.

Preschool and shows for older children projects make up the bulk of the projects set for the event, which is held in Toulouse on September 23-26, totaling 67 (31 preschool and 36 ‘children’). There are eight aimed family audiences, and eight for young adults and older viewers.

Each producer will have the opportunity to pitch their project to audiences that will include around 250 international broadcasters and investors.

CARTOON claims its event has ensured financing totaling €1.8 billion (US$2.5 billion) for more than 525 projects over the past 25 years.
