News brief: CCTV buys German comedy format Schiller Street
Chinese state broadcaster CCTV has acquired Schiller Street, the German-originated improvised comedy format.
The local version of the show will be called Joy Street and air on CCTV’s flagship CCTV-1 channel as well as being made available for online streaming.
Red Arrow International distributes the format and struck the CCTV deal. It has previously shopped the format into twenty international territories.
In the show, comedians and surprise guests improvise various scenarios. It was originally created by Hurricane Productions.
