Orphan Black joins Amazon family

Orphan-BlackAmazon’s Prime Instant Video service has become the exclusive subscription streaming home of BBC America drama Orphan Black.

The deal covers season one and all future seasons, including the upcoming second run, which launches on BBC America in the US on Saturday, April 19.

The series stars Tatiana Maslany as a girl who takes the identity of a woman that looks just like her and whom she witnesses committing suicide.

Amazon scored the deal with BBC Worldwide North America, the Stateside arm of the BBC’s commercial division.

Orphan Black is exactly the type of smart, suspenseful TV show that our customers love to binge on,” said Brad Beale, director of digital video content acquisition, Amazon.

In recent months, Amazon has come onboard the likes of upcoming CBS sci-fi drama Extant and launched another round of pilots. Last week, the retail giant rebranded UK service Lovefilm as Instant Prime Video UK.

Temple Street Productions produces the show in association with BBC America and Bell Media-owned channel Space.
