Dutch channel RTL5 remakes I’m a Celebrity
Dutch channel RTL5 has commissioned its own version of evergreen ITV Studios reality format I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here!, TBI has learned.
The local remake will be called Ik Ben Een Ster, Haal Me Hier Uit! and will be produced by Endemol in Dutch-speaking Suriname in South America.
The resultant 8x60mins series will launch in spring 2014.
“Watching celebrities swap their lifestyles for the horrors of the jungle makes for compulsive viewing, and we’re delighted that Dutch viewers will get the opportunity to see their celebrities take on the challenge,” said Tobias de Graaff, director, global television distribution at ITV’s global sales division ITV Studios Global Entertainment.
ITVSGE’s senior sales executive for northwest EMEA, Phil Sequiera, negotiated the deal with RTL5.
I’m a Celebrity…’s most recent season in the UK (pictured above) on ITV launched to 13.5 million viewers, marking the biggest launch in the show’s history and the average 11.1 million represented its best ever result. In Germany, RTL’s eighth season took nearly eight million viewers a week, its best performance in a decade.
The deal comes after ITVSGE presented a slate of new formats to more than 100 assorted buyers at its annual ITV Studios Formats event last week.
