Warner Bros. seals ER, Gossip Girl, Liars format deals
US drama series ER, Gossip Girl and Pretty Little Liars will be remade in Asia after Warner Bros. cut format deals with partners in the region.
A Filipino version of teen mystery drama Pretty Little Liars is in production with ABC Development Corporation making the 22-episode series for the TV5 channel. The US original is on cable network ABC Family and produced by Alloy Entertainment and Warner Horizon.
In Thailand prodco Kantana is producing an 18-episode local adaptation of the Gossip Girl, which follows an affluent group of youngsters in the US. The first local adaptation of the series, Gossip Girl Acapulco, aired in 2013 in Mexico. The Warner Bros. Television and CBS Television Studios-produced US version ran for five seasons on The CW broadcast network in the US.
Medical drama ER has been optioned to Gold Television Network. The first format deal for the show was recently announced with Fox International Channels and TC ordering a 60-episode Colombian version. The original was produced by Constant c Productions, Amblin Television and Warner Bros. Television and ran for fifteen season on NBC.
“Pretty Little Liars, Gossip Girl and ER are all such iconic Warner Bros. shows, proved to be audience favourites in the US and we’re confident about their potential to equally entertain the audiences in the Philippines, Thailand and India,” said Andrew Zein, senior VP, creative, Format development and sales at Warner Bros. International Television Production.
