BBC names acting BBC Two, BBC Four controller

The BBC has named Adam Barker as acting controller, BBC Two and BBC Four.

BBC director of television Danny Cohen named Barker as acting controller of the two channels following Janice Hadlow’s move to become controller, special projects and seasons.

Barker, who is currently editorial executive for the two channels, will take up his new role in March until a permanent appointment is made.

“I’m delighted to be offered this opportunity to take care of two of the BBC’s most distinctive television channels on an interim basis and look forward to working with Danny and the channel teams to keep them firmly on track during this time of transition,” said Barker.

“BBC Two and BBC Four are on fine form and it’s important there’s no delay in commissioning decisions during this interim period. Adam’s a very experienced television executive and broadcaster and I’ve asked him ensure we maintain momentum over the coming weeks,” said Cohen.

Hadlow stepped down as controller of BBC Two and BBC Four earlier this month to focus on projects including a range of programmes on popular music, a season focusing on women’s history and a collaboration between drama and factual genres to create a literary season in 2016.
