Record 111.5 million tune in for US Super Bowl
The Fox broadcast of the Sunday’s Super Bowl American football game drew in a record 111.5 million viewers – the largest ever audience US television audience.
This eclipses the 111.3 million the Super Bowl game scored in 2012 on NBC and the 111 million it took in 2010 and continues a trend that has seen the American Football League’s showcase fill six of the top seven highest-rated shows ever. The 1982 finale of comedy M*A*S*H is the sixth highest broadcast.
Fox comedies New Girl and Brooklyn Nine-Nine both felt the benefits of the huge Super Bowl lead-in, with the former taking in a whooping 25.8 million at 10.25pm and the latter leading out with 14.8 million, according to Nielsen data.
The match ended in a 43-8 rout in favour of the Seattle Seahawks over the Denver Broncos.
