News brief: NHK completes 8K test

As broadcasters and programme makers increasingly move to the 4K medium, Japanese public broadcaster NHK has completed tests of an even higher resolution 8K transmission standard.

8K offers a resolution 16 times that of standard high definition and NHK has just completed a terrestrial TV trial using the standard.

The broadcaster has been testing 8K since 2012 and said it has now proved that 8K signals can be transmitted over the same distances as their DTT equivalent.
