Colombian net, FIC prescribe ER remake
Colombia’s RCN has ordered a Spanish-language remake of NBC medical drama ER, which ran for 15 seasons in the US.
Regional pay TV broadcaster Fox International Channels Latin America and Ecuadorian pubcaster TC are also attached to the order, made from Warner Bros. International Television Production, with producer Resonant creating it in Colombia. Casting begins next month and production is scheduled to begin in May ahead of a summer launch.
The original ER came from Constant c Productions and Amblin Television in association with Warner Bros. Television. It launched on NBC in 1994 and ran for more than 300 episodes across 15 seasons, gaining a record 124 Emmy-nominations and 23 wins.
“Even though ER is a fundamentally American series, its characters and situations are so strong, moving and universal that will surely find a place in the hearts of Latin American audiences. We are eager to have it on our screen,” said Fernando Gaitan, VP of content and production, RCN.
“We are thrilled to offer to all Latin American viewers a unique and high quality content in Spanish such as ER on MundoFox,” added Gonzalo Fiure, chief content officer, FOX International Channels Latin America.
