AMC/Sundance Channel buys festival fare
AMC/Sundance Channel Global has made a raft of independent film acquisitions from the 2014 Sundance Film Festival that will premiere exclusively on the Sundance Channel this spring.
US drama Drunktown’s Finest has been acquired for France, Eastern Europe, Latin America, Benelux, Iberia and Asia (excluding Malaysia); while Chile-France copro To Kill a Man will air in Asia, Eastern Europe, North Africa and the Middle East.
Dramas The Disobedient, Liar’s Dice and Memphis and documentary This May Be the Last Time were acquired for all international territories where Sundance Channel is seen.
Bruce Tuchman (pictured), president of AMC/Sundance Channel Global who made the announcement today, said: “We’re excited to acquire a terrific selection of movies fresh from the 2014 Sundance Film Festival to debut exclusively on Sundance Channel this spring. The channel shares the same mission as the festival to support the growth of independent film.”
The new deals follow a year of expansion for Sundance Channel, including launching in Latin America, the Middle East and North Africa for the first time. There are also agreements in place to increase its linear and VOD services’ distribution in Asia and Europe.
AMC/Sundance Channel Global is AMC’s international division.
