Miramax and Weinstein pact, develop Good Will Hunting series
Miramax and The Weinstein Company have inked a wide-ranging agreement for the development, production and distribution of new TV projects and movies.
The multiyear deal will include the development of Miramax movie Good Will Hunting as a TV series.
TWC will sell it in the US and Miramax internationally. The same model will apply to movies developed under the terms of the multiyear agreement.
Miramax, which was originally founded by the Weinstein brothers Harvey (pictured) and Bob. It said this deal was an important step in its “commitment to creating new, original content, supporting the Studio’s return to prominence as a major supplier of smart, provocative, quality entertainment.”
The distributor has been owned by Qatar Holding and Colony Capital since 2010.
It recently picked up international rights to another TV series based on one of its movies, the 10-part small-screen version of Robert Rodriguez’s cult feature film From Dusk Till Dawn. It will debut on Rodriguez’s cable channel, El Rey Network.
