Legendary buys US indie Asylum Entertainment
Legendary Entertainment has acquired Asylum Entertainment and the US producer will become part of the Legendary TV and digital division, which is run by ex-Warner Bros. boss Bruce Rosenblum.
Asylum – not to be confused with The Asylum, the US producer of Sharknado – was created in 2003 and is run by Steve Michaels and Jonathan Koch who will stay with the company and report to Rosenblum. The pair will continue to run the producer as an independent entity.
The company makes ESPN sports series 30 for 30 and is also the production company behind The Kennedys, Being Mike Tyson and Beverly Hills Pawn.
Rosenblum said: “Asylum’s terrific track-record, relationships and current television content gives Legendary a base to expand and quickly diversify our television business.”
“This is an incredible deal that allows Asylum to scale our existing business beyond what we could have imagined,” Michaels and Koch said in a joint statement.
