Dale Winton in line for BBC lottery gameshow pilot
UK producer Victory Television has won a pilot order from the BBC for a new gameshow, TBI has learned.
Popular British host Dale Winton is expected front the show, which is designed to fill the UK public broadcaster’s coveted lottery results slot.
Winton currently hosts In It to Win It, the Saturday evening gameshow wrapped around the National Lottery results. The new Victory show is expected to occupy a lottery slot if taken to series as the BBC runs a number of lottery gameshows throughout the year. In It to Win It has run since 2002 and is produced by ITV-owned 12 Yard.
In the Victory show, which has yet to be given a title, couples create a wish list of dream prizes. They then compete over high-pressure timed rounds to win items from the list they have created.
Victory, which is backed by Sony Pictures Television, declined to comment on whether Winton would front the show.
The show was commissioned by Alan Tyler, the BBC’s Glasgow-based Out of London entertainment commissioning editor. Victory has previously stated its intention to open a Scottish office although has not yet done so and it was not immediately clear where the new gameshow will be produced.
The producer’s head of entertainment, Stuart Shawcross, created the new format and will executive produce the show. Victory founder Victoria Ashbourne will also exec produce, as will BBC entertainment formats specialist Phil Parsons.
SPT is expected to launch the new lottery gameshow format internationally if it gets a full commission.
Victory has won several pilot and series commissions this year. In August, TBI was the first to report it is making a physical gameshow pilot, In Sync, for the BBC. It is also working on Draw It! for UK free-to-air broadcaster Channel 4. The show is based on the Zynga app.
