Weinstein picks up SVOD rights to Peaky Blinders
The Weinstein Company has taken US subscription video-on-demand rights to British drama series Peaky Blinders.
The deal covers the first season of the Steven Knight (Eastern Promises) period crime drama, which stars Cillian Murphy and aired on the BBC in the UK.
The BBC has ordered a second series and the US SVOD deal covers that and a potential third season, with an option on any further instalments thereafter.
Harvey Weinstein said: “We have always been big fans of Steven Knight’s work and are extremely excited to bring this show stateside, where it’s sure to thrill audiences just as much as it did in the UK.”
The show is produced by Caryn Mandabach Production and Endemol-owned Tiger Aspect for BBC Two. It is distributed by Endemol Worldwide Distribution. The second season goes into production next January.
