Sky takes UKTV online and on-demand
UK pay TV provider BSkyB has signed a new multi-year deal with UKTV that will see it launch the multichannel broadcaster’s pay networks via its on-demand and mobile services.
The multiplatform extension of the two companies’ existing partnership will make UKTV content available through Sky On Demand and the company’s mobile TV service, Sky Go.
The deal comes just days after Sky also announced that it is adding UKTV-owned comedy channel Gold to its pay-monthly OTT service, NOW TV, as part of a new entertainment channel package.
“We are delighted to have extended our partnership with UKTV so that we can offer our customers even more great ways to enjoy some of their favourite shows. We’ll be adding UKTV’s content to our Catch Up, On Demand and Sky Go services, which is great news for customers,” said Sky’s commercial group director, Rob Webster.
UKTV’s pay channels are Gold, Watch, Alibi, Dave HD, Good Food, Eden and Home. Its free-to-air channels, including Dave, Drama, Really and Yesterday, continue to be available to Sky customers.
Watch in particular has picked up traction through series such as Dynamo: Magician Impossible (pictured above). It has now commissioned The Happenings, which comes from All3Media-owned Objective Productions and CrooK Productions.
The show will follow a pair of magicians playing tricks on people in the UK and US.
