DirecTV in Black Mirror, Secret State deals
DirectTV has acquired Charlie Brooker-penned dramedy Black Mirror and Gabriel Byrne-starring conspiracy thriller Secret State for its Audience Network.
The US cable TV provider plans to debut the UK-created series on November 12 at 9pm and 10pm respectively, with Black Mirror (pictured) going first.
Black Mirror, which UK broadcaster and comedian Brooker wrote and Endemol’s Zeppotron produced, is comprised of three standalone stories set in the near future that make comments on the darker sides of modern life, media and technology. It first broadcast on the UK’s Channel 4 and won an International Emmy for best miniseries. Endemol Worldwide Distribution sells it.
“Black Mirror is truly unlike any other show that is currently on television, which makes it a perfect fit for Audience,” said Chris Long, executive VP, entertainment at DirecTV. “We are always on the hunt for programming that, like our network, is unique and thought-provoking.”
Company Pictures-produced Secret State stars Hollywood actor Byrne as a man who finds himself taking on the establishment after a devastating industrial accident that throws up questions about company safety procedures. All3Media International shops it on the global market.
