Escape Artist emerges at Scandi channels
New David Tennant-starring BBC drama The Escape Artist has sold into Scandinavia, with a pair of channels in Norway and Sweden snapping up rights.
TV2 in Norway and TV4 in Sweden have bought the 3x60mins/2x90mins thriller miniseries, which debuts on BBC One in the UK today.
The show comes from writer David Wolstencroft, is produced by Red Arrow Entertainment-owned UK indie Endor Productions and sold on the global market by Red Arrow International.
TV4’s head of acquired programmes Helena Forman said the show was an “obvious selection” and was confident it would “add the desired impact to the [channel’s] primetime schedule”, while TV2’s head of acquisitions John Ranelagh called the deal a “no-brainer”.
The series stars Tennant (Broadchurch, Doctor Who) as a defence lawyer whose specialism in getting people out of tight legal corners gets him into trouble when he gets the prime suspect in a horrific murder trial acquitted,
