Yahoo launching series based on spoof Queen Twitter feed
Yahoo UK is launching Yes Ma’am, a new short form animated series based on the @Queen_UK Twitter feed.
The spoof feed, purporting to be written by the reigning UK monarch, launched in May 2010 and has over a million followers.
Yahoo has ordered a six-part short form series based on the feed with the first three-minute instalment launching on November 15 and weekly, on Friday afternoons, thereafter.
There will be an alternative Christmas special on December 25 to coincide with the Queen’s Christmas speech.
Kate Robbins who voiced the Queen in iconic British satire series Spitting image will reprise her voice role in Yes Ma’am. She will also play the Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cornwall, and her mother.
Digital agency Sweetweets is on production duty with the creator of the Twitter feed, who has never been identified, writing the series. Cutlass Productions (Modern Toss) is handling the animation.
Dan Watt-Smith, head of video, Yahoo said: “Usually we see characters from TV shows beating a path to Twitter, but we’re trying an alternative approach, creating an online video series for the Queen’s dedicated followers and subjects. Each episode will not only give us a topical angle to promote, but will have long-term appeal, much like her Majesty.”
