Sony notches pair of Chinese programming deals

Huaso Film/TV Digital Production, the Sony Pictures Television-backed Chinese prodco, has got a new show away in the country and secured a recommission of another of its titles.

It has cut a coproduction deal with leading satellite broadcaster Zhejiang Television for a local version of Breakaway the gameshow created by SPT’s UK prodco Gogglebox. In the show contestants answer questions based on local customs and culture. It will launch on October 26 in a 9pm slot on Zhejiang Television.

The other deal is a recommission of Dancing Nation by state broadcaster CCTV. The second season of the dance competition show will feature people with heroic stories leading their communities in learning and performing dance routines.

It is in production and the eight-part one-hour series will debut on CCTV-12 in December.

Mary Chan, vice president, production, Asia, SPT said: “We are excited to be working closely with CCTV and local communities across the region to bring back Dancing Nation, a high-quality format that underscores the importance of community and everyday heroes who are making an important difference in the lives of their family, friends and neighbors.”
