Starz making new drama series Gringo

US cable net Starz is developing Gringo, a one-hour drama series based on the non-fiction book The Shadow Catcher.

The book was written by U.S. Immigration Officer Hipolito Acosta and chronicles is work in customs enforcement and the Mexican-American immigration department.

The TV series will be written by Aaron Helbing and Todd Helbing, both of whom worked on Starz’ big action franchise Spartacus.

Gringo provides a thrilling and uniquely personal look into international organized crime, never seen by the American public, from the viewpoint of a federal undercover agent on the front lines,” said Carmi Zlotnik, managing director of Starz.

Steve Lee Jones will executive produce the show. He recently launched the TV division of Bee Holder Productions, which is working on several projects including miniseries Delorean and Rube about porn godfather Reuben Sturman.
