Warner Bros. and Lindelof making The Leftovers for HBO

HBO has ordered original series The Leftovers from Warner Bros. Television.

The series will be based on the eponymous Tom Perotta novel about the people left on earth after the Rapture, a world-changing event in which God takes all believers into heaven.

Perotta will exec produce the ten episode series for HBO and Damon Lindelof (Lost) will be the showrunner. Lindelof’s Adventure Corps and will make the series with Warner Bros.

Describing the series, HBO said: “The Rapture happens, but not quite like it’s supposed to. This is the story of the people who didn’t make the cut … and a world that will never be the same.”

Christopher Eccleston (Doctor Who) and Liv Tyler (Armageddon) are among the cast.
