HBO kills True Blood, renews The Newsroom

HBO has decided to end vampire series True Blood’s run after its upcoming seventh season.

The new ten-episode season will go out on the US premium cable network next summer. The sixth season ended last month having garnered strong ratings.

True Blood has been nothing short of a defining show for HBO,” said Michael Lombardo, president, HBO Programming. “It will be hard to say goodbye to the residents of Bon Temps, but I look forward to what promises to be a fantastic final chapter of this incredible show.”

Separately, HBO has given The Newsroom (pictured) a third outing. Jeff Daniels, star of the newsroom-based drama, tweeted that the show was coming back for season three.
