Syfy follows Sharknado with Ghost Shark
US cable channel Syfy is tapping into the wave of enthusiasm around its disaster telemovie Sharknado with another original movie, Ghost Shark.
Sharknado’s debut on July 11 lead to one of the biggest social media maelstroms in cable television history, with 5,000 tweets a minute about the programme being sent at its peak.
Interest in Syfy’s Original Movie strand has since exploded with numerous news outlets and programmes interviewing its management team and NBCUniversal-owned channel is taking advantage of the buzz by running Ghost Shark on August 22 at 9pm during its Original Movie Month.
Ghost Shark tells the story of a shark comes back to haunt humanity as a ghost after being tortured and killed by a fisherman. It comes from Active Entertainment (Swamp Shark), with Griff Furst directing.
Syfy is to re-air Sharknado this coming Thursday.
