Bible follow up confirmed but not for History
The follow-up to Mark Burnett produced drama The Bible has been confirmed – but for broadcast net NBC and not cablenet History.
A.D.: Beyond the Bible will be a new limited miniseries from prolific producer Burnett, and enlarges his relationship with NBC, which was cemented when he produced its smash hit reality series The Voice.
“I followed the development process of The Bible closely with mark and knew the story was far from over after Christ’s Crucifixion, said NBC Entertainment chairman Bob Greenblatt in a statement. “The day after The Bible premiered, I told Mark we were on board with no hesitation for the follow-up miniseries. This will be attention getting in every way, and we’re proud to continue our association with Mark, which has just grown exponentially from The Voice,” he added.
The new mini will “will begin in the dark days after Jesus’ betrayal and death”, according to the producers, following his Disciples’ battles against persecution from the Roman military and local authorities.
The original series (above), from LightWorkers Media and Hearst Productions, was a massive smash for A+E-owned History, scoring 13.1 million on its debut and 11.7 million on the finale on Easter Sunday earlier this year. It is associated, along with The Walking Dead and Hatfields & McCoys, with leading a revolution in scripted cable programming.
Burnett will executive produce the new miniseries with his wife, Roma Downey, and Richard Bedser.
