icflix global expansion underway

Upcoming Middle Eastern SVOD platform icflix has moved a step closer to launching in Europe, the US and Canada after registering its trademark in all three places.

The service, which will comprise a mix of Hollywood, Bollywood and Arabic studio ‘Jazwood’ programmes and movies, is launching in the Middle East and North Africa this month but its founders had previously outlined plans for further expansion to target ex-pats in the West.

This week, the UAE-based company officially registered the icflix trademark and logos in the EU, the US and Canada and plans ahead of plans to launch what it describes as a “low monthly subscription” service.

However, icflix’s deals for exclusive Hollywood studio content, which are understood to be close to completion, will not be available outsider MENA.

Earlier this week, TBI reported icflix had closed content deals with Turner Broadcasting System Arabia, DHX Media and Mondo TV.

icflix is touted as MENA’s first dedicated consumer-facing SVOD platform.
