Long expected Moshi toon series set for TV
The London-based company behind kids mega-brand Moshi Monsters, Mind Candy, has unveiled a 52x11mins-animated series based on the kids’ mega-brand.
Mind Candy will produce the series based on popular Moshi characters for distribution on both linear and digital platforms. The company’s chief business development officer Darran Garnham will be in Las Vegas next week at the Licensing Expo to open discussions with potential broadcast partners.
Mind Candy’s executive creative producer, film and TV projects, Jocelyn Stevenson will lead production.
Michael Acton Smith, founder and creator of Moshi Monsters commented: “We’re looking forward to telling a wide range of new stories with these cartoons and taking the Moshi Monsters characters to new fans all around the world.”
The Moshi brand, which began life as an interactive children’s website, has made Mind Candy into one of the top new kids’ content companies in the world. It was valued at £200 million (US$312 million) two years ago, and currently has 80 million registered web users and has developed more than 200 characters.
The Moshi empire now encompasses toys, books, trading cards, video games and a magazine. An online VOD player, Moshi TV, was also announced but is yet to go live.
A TV series has long been rumoured but up to this point Mind Candy had only produced online shorts and animated music videos. The firm will head to Cartoon Digital and MIPCOM Jr to discuss the series and other upcoming TV projects.
