Discovery Kids buys Science Kid movie from Henson
Pan-regional channel Discovery Kids Latin America has acquired Sid the Science Kid: The Movie and Fraggle Rock spin-off Doozers.
The Sid movie is a spin-off the Sid the Science Kid series and follows the title character and his classmate on a visit to a new science museum as they encounter a wacky professor, voiced by Back to the Future’s Christopher Lloyd, and his robot tour guides of the future.
It’s a coproduction between The Jim Henson Company, Nine Eyes Stone and Shanghai Animation Film Studios and has Bradley Zweig attached as writer and executive producer. Lisa Henson and Halle Stanford executive produce for Henson, with Al F. Barry doing the same for Nine Eyes Stone. David Miller produces.
Doozers, meanwhile, is 52x11mins preschool series and comes from Henson and Canadian producer DHX Media. Last year, Cartoonito became the first international channel to buy the show.
The original Doozers characters were introduced to television audiences through Fraggle Rock, which aired from 1983 to 1987 in the US on HBO.
