Sundance orders another original drama

US cable net Sundance Channel has ordered its second wholly-owned original series, The Descendants. The 6x60mins series will follow a US sheriff policing two clashing communities.

The order comes as Sundance ramps up its original programming strategy, with recent examples including Rectify and Top of the Lake.

The cable net, part of the AMC Networks group, also announced that it has upped Christian Vesper to senior VP, scripted development and current and Jordan Helman to director, scripted development and current.

Helman will report to Vesper who in turn will report to Nena Rodrigue, head of programming and development.

The Descendants is part of Sundance’s recently announced slate of original dramas.
