Ben Stiller attached to IFC sketch comedy
Ben Stiller is behind a new 10-part comedy for US cable channel IFC. The Hollywood comedy actor co-executive produces The Birthday Boys with fellow comic Bob Odenkirk.
The show features The Birthday Boys, an LA comedy troupe, and is billed as in the lineage of influential surreal sketch series such as Monty Python and Odenkirk’s HBO series Mr. Show.
It will look at cultural touch point issues such as eggs, toilet paper and computers. Odenkirk will also feature on-screen.
Debbie Liebling, Stuart Cornfeld and Mike Rosenstein of Stiller’s Red Hour Films also executive produce with US producer Abso Lutely Productions (Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!) producing.
“The Birthday Boys are too good to just be making viral videos. They are funny enough to fill time between episodes of Portlandia,” said Ben Stiller. “I’m thrilled to be working with Bob Odenkirk again on a TV project. We try to do something every 20 years or so.”
Stiller and Odenkirk first hooked up on 1992 MTV series The Ben Stiller Show.
