HBO extends Universal Pictures output

US cable network HBO has renewed a movie output deal with Universal Pictures it was announced late Sunday.

Financial and specific details were not given, but HBO said the long-term agreement ensured it would carry Universal movies into the next decade.

The deal was hammered out by Frances Manfredi, president, NBCUniversal cable & new media distribution and Doris Casap, senior VP, film programming, HBO.

The content deal between HBO and Universal stretches back to 2003.

“We are very pleased to continue our strong partnership with HBO to bring Universal and Focus films to HBO’s loyal subscriber base – evidence of the continued strength of Pay TV,” said Manfredi.

HBO president, film programming, Bruce Grivetti said. “We are excited to extend our relationship with Universal Pictures and have now solidified HBO’s position for first-run theatricals into the next decade.”
