Indian broadcaster Zee has acquired The Jim Henson Company’s preschool series Sid The Science Kid for its new kids channel.
This comes ahead of both the Asia Television Forum and the Asian Animation Summit, where The Jim Henson Company will be attending looking to ramp up its business in the region.
Zee has picked up all 66x30mins episodes of the series, which follows Sid as he learns about everyday science, for its edutainment network Zee-Q.
“Zee is acquiring educational content for the new Zee-Q channel that will foster curiosity through fun and entertainment, and Sid The Science Kid is a natural fit,” said Richard Goldsmith, EVP, global distribution, The Jim Henson Company.
The producer and distributor will be looking to meet more coproduction partners at the events, held in Singapore and Malaysia in December. It will be discussing series including Annoying Orange, which it recently took international rights from The Collective, Pajanimals and Doozers. This follows its success with Dinosaur Train, which is coproduces with Singapore’s Sparky Animation.
“We are looking forward to attending our first ATF to introduce our entire catalog of new and classic programming to the Asian market, and to further our goal of attracting additional co-production partners in the region at both the ATF and the Asian Animation Summit,” he added.
