MTV orders second season of The Valleys
British pay TV broadcaster MTV has ordered a second season of its hit reality series The Valleys.
The UK division of Viacom International Media Networks has ordered the second season from True North Productions, the British indie founded by Jess Fowle, Glyn Middleton and Andrew Sheldon. The series will begin casting immediately and will launch in spring 2013.
The Valleys is the latest hit reality series to air on MTV UK following the success of Geordie Shore. It was commissioned by Kerry Taylor, SVP and director of television, MTV UK, and Steve Regan, senior editorial director, commissioning and production, MTV UK and ordered by Vanessa Brookman, VP, programming, MTV UK.
“The Valleys was a massive success for MTV UK so commissioning a second series was a no-brainer for us,” said Taylor. “During its premiere timeslot, The Valleys ensured MTV was the number one ranking channel for 16-34s in pay TV homes, outperforming tough competition from Channel 4 and BBC3, thanks to a brilliant MTV audience who took the cast to heart, tuning in and interacting with them online.”
