Sky buys Sony’s submarine drama Last Resort

UK pay TV broadcaster BSkyB has acquired US submarine drama series Last Resort.

The Sony Pictures Television-distributed show airs on broadcast network ABC in the US, where it has a Thursday night 8pm slot. On Sky it will premiere on October 30.

The series was created by Shawn Ryan (The Shield) and follows the crew of a rogue nuclear submarine that become fugitives after questioning an order to fire their nuclear missiles.

SPT has already sold the series to broadcasters including Germany’s Prosieben, Spain’s Telecinco, Italy’s Fox, Austria’s ORF, Turkey’s Digiturk, Czech Republic’s Nova and Belgium’s Telenet and AXN Asia across twenty territories including India and China.

For Sky, the deal is the latest for one of this season’s big-ticket US series. It has already acquired Arrow, and The Following from Warner Bros., Vegas, and Elementary from CBS and Chicago Fire from NBC.
