TBI Exclusive: Marc Rosen’s Georgeville launches scripted Zorro series Z
Mark Rosen (Harry Potter, Threshold) has told TBI that his fledgling US production firm Georgeville Television (GVTV) is making Z, a modern-day adaptation of Zorro.
Naren Shankar (CSI, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine) has been brought on as producer and it will be directed by French director Louis Leterrier (Transporter, The Incredible Hulk).
A full script and bible for the show, which is for an unnamed US cable network, has been produced.
“It’s an ‘inspired-by’ piece,” Rosen explains. “It’s about a young Latino kid in Los Angeles who, with his uncle, sets out to avenge his sister’s murder and ends up taking on a modern-day Zorro character called Z.”
GVTV, which is backed by the film and TV division of Indian conglomerate Reliance, has already sealed straight-to-series deals Crossbones for NBC and Hunters for ABC and Rosen says it is close to announcing another two.
It is also making the new series from The X-Files creator Chris Carter, The After, and the reboot of classic Syfy series Blake’s 7 for US cable net Syfy.
Sierra Engine is selling all of GVTV’s content under the terms of a distribution pact.
