Mega Shark producer The Asylum preps new mockbusters

US independent producer and distributor The Asylum is celebrating its 15th anniversary with a raft of new mockbusters and action films featuring stars including Shannon Elisabeth and Danny Trejo.

The Mega Shark vs Giant Octopus producer is launching titles including Rise of the Zombies, #Holdyourbreath and Age of Hobbits at the market.

Rise of the Zombies is a 90minute action feature that will launch on Syfy in the US. It stars Trejo and Ethan Suplee and follows a group of people that lock themselves into Alcatraz prison to ward off zombies.

#Holdyourbreath, stars 30 Rock’s Katrina Bowden, and the horror film, which sees the ghost of a notorious serial killer jumps from body to body, is The Asylum’s first theatrical release in the US.

Meanwhile, the Age of Hobbits is a mockbuster title ahead of Peter Jackon’s The Hobbit. It stars Crank’s Bai Ling and Stargate’s Christopher Judge.

Other titles the company will be launching at the market include Layover, Hansel and Gretel, Love at the Christmas Table, Golden Winter and 40 Days and Night.
