Disney XD picks up Max Steel

Disney XD has acquired animated action series Max Steel. Disney’s boy-skewing channel has taken US rights and will also have the series Central and Eastern Europe, South and Sub-Saharan Africa, the Middle East and Turkey.

Producer and distributor FremantleMedia Enterprises (FME) has also sold the series, a reboot of an earlier animated series based on a Mattel action figure, to Cartoon Network and Boing in Italy, Lagardère in France and Canal Panda in Portugal.

Cartoon Network has already taken pan-Latin rights and FME has also now sold it to Turner Broadcast Systems across Asia-Pacific in a multi-territory deal covering Australia, New Zealand, Southeast Asia, India, Taiwan and the Philippines.

Sander Schwartz, president, Kids & Family Entertainment FME, added, “In addition to having our ideal broadcast partner in the U.S. with Disney XD coming on board, we’re delighted that Max Steel has found a home in so many territories around the world.”

The new 26x30mins CGI series is produced by FME, Mattel and NerdCorps. The show will launch around the world from next spring.
